OVERLOOKED BUT HARMFUL
One of the most popular sermon preached by most Ghanaians is “ Do not drink and drive”. It’s kinda obvious that many institutions have in their own way brought out the disadvantages of drunken-and also fought for its limitation through their adverts on various media platforms and other means. But I think there is one thing which has to be taken into consideration. The selling of alcohol at lorry parks is one factor which needs to be tackled in helping to curb drunken-driving attitude of drivers.
Many institutions and agencies have tried their possible best to help fight for the ban on the sale of alcohol in various lorry stations across regions in Ghana. In ‘Sale of
Alcohol at lorry parks’ an article published by the Ghana News Agency, it’s clearly obvious that there are a number of drinking spots in Accra being the hub with vehicles arriving from all parts of the country has the largest number of bars at lorry stations. The GNA\'s nationwide survey found out that the Neoplan Station in Accra, which sees over 400 vehicles a day leaving or arriving in the capital, has nine drinking spots. Drinking spots were located at strategic points of the Adenta Lorry Station in Accra, the survey revealed. Mr Kojo Akorful, Assemblyman of the area said there were 25 drinking spots at the transport terminal.
Metropolitan Assemblies and Ghana Private Road and Transport Union(GPRTU) working together would help limit the presence of drinking spots in lorry parks. I think drivers should also be urged to avoid the habit of drunken-driving to prevent car accidents. Let’s play our part as the public to help curb drunken-driving.
GOD BLESS OUR MOTHERLAND GHANA

True..Very True.
ReplyDeleteIt is common knowledge that drinking and driving is a crime with a serious penalties. It is also common knowledge that it is very dangerous to get behind the wheel of a vehicle if you are under the influence of alcohol. yet many fatalities are caused by drunk driving . And yet the number of drinking spots near lorry stations keep increasing..very serious.. Overlooked But very very Harmful.
i think Law enforcement has to work and also there should be more adverts on effects of drunk driving instead of advertising that much on alcohol..especially near lorry stations.
